JON "THE VERNOMATIC" VERNO

My formative years:

Born and raised in Rochester, New York, I grew up in creative environment.

My late father, Michael Verno, was the owner of Verno Advertising for 35 years up here in Rochester. 

My mother, Mary Anne Verno, owned and operated an interior design company in the 80s and came from an art background. So, the creative DNA was there from the start.

My siblings Todd, Michael and Kristin Verno have worked in the broadcasting, publishing and marketing field their entire careers. Its in the family genes. 

Growing up, my older brother who was always learning about new music and the creative process behind it, was the spark that led me to my early broadcast career. By the 11^th Grade l  was studying Radio and TV Broadcasting , something that would result in the early incarnation of my Metal Mayhem platform.

After high school I attended the TREBAS Institute of Recording Arts in Toronto, Canada where I studied in studio recording. It was here that I became friends with many metal heads, including Lips and Rob Reiner of Anvil! After that, my education in this artistic area continued at Monroe Community College in Rochester NY, as well as SUNY HERKIMER in Central NY.

Why I founded Metal Mayhem ROC:

In a nutshell, it’s for the passion of the music I love and that we all have a common connection to. I absolutely love everything about hard rock & heavy metal music, and I have a fond passion for media relations. In looking at these two key elements, the blending of the two is what drives the creative process for me. It’s the interaction amongst the correspondents, the artists and the listeners and I really enjoy being a media outlet for the heavy metal community!

What makes Metal Mayhem ROC unique?

First of all, I have assembled an A-list cast of correspondents that each offer a different twist to the platform. With this diversity, we strive to educate the listener on different aspects of the music in every project we partake in. Yes, of course it has to be informative and fun, but we want you the listener take away something that you may have forgotten about, or never knew about. Anyone can do an internet search and read for hours on end about the facts, but our mission is to offer a balance of facts, opinions and debate in everything we cover. In addition, we strive to carry ourselves like true professionals in our conversations and interviews.

Our approach:

Although we all love the historical side of the classic hard rock & heavy metal bands & their music, it’s equally important for us to support their newer material. Also, as we grow with the times, there a lot of newer & sometimes younger artists that are worth our attention. New bands, new material, and coming out of our comfort zone to create content that is interesting and diverse. 1980 was a great year for music in this genre’, but our goal is not to live in the past. Additionally, with the launch of the new website and celebrating our third anniversary in 2022, we strive to continually grow together along with our awesome team & of course you the listeners.

Why The radio show too?

For me personally, I absolutely love broadcast radio. The excitement of going live and playing music to reach people and play that certain song at that certain time, or maybe play a song that they haven't heard in a long time. The ability to interact with the audience is second to none! I believe that the Metal Mayhem Roc live radio show is a perfect complement to the broadcast & the podcast platforms.
